A Mermaid’s Guide to Santa Cruz
130 years ago, three Hawaiian princes introduced surfing to Santa Cruz. – Santa Cruz Waves
We heard through the grape vine that this ultra-mellow beach town oozed of surf culture and charm and that we had to check it out if ever we were in the Nor Cal area and that’s just what we did this past Summer.
When we travel, we’re always on the lookout for fun waves and Santa Cruz seemed like a really cool place to post up for a week or so and explore.
Immediately upon arrival, we felt like we were home. Palm tree’s swaying over coast side opal cliffs, cruiser bikes going by on the board walk adorned with multiple surfboards, kids on skateboards with wetsuits half off and burritos in hand…This is the life!
Keep scrolling below to discover our favourite surf spots, boutiques and of course restaurants from Santa Cruz and surroundings.

Sweet mural in front of one of the most epic surf shops I’ve ever visited called Proof Lab Surf Shop. Proof lab has 2 clothing boutiques, a cafe, a skate bowl, and a surfboard dedicated boutique all on the same property…It’s wild, definitely worth checking out!
