Back to Briland
The Marysia Resort 2023 collection looks to the pink sand beaches, turquoise waters, and charming
New England-style cottages of Harbour Island in the Bahamas. Known to locals as Briland, the three-mile-long
Caribbean isle has become a cherished family getaway for designer Marysia Dobrzanska Reeves.
“Harbour Island is the best of both worlds, a place of remote beauty—accessible only by boat or ferry—
and a warm, welcoming community with a special culture all its own,” says Reeves. “You feel like you’re in
a faraway land but still right at home.” That enchanting combination was the starting point for Resort,
a collection that, like all great escapes, unites the elusive and the effortless.
In celebration of the ultimate season for resortwear, the collection offers a myriad
of versatile silhouettes, including exquisitely detailed new dresses, in an expanded range of textures.
Crinkled cotton, airy meshes, and timeless broderie anglaise are joined by plush cotton terry, a first for Marysia.
Ideal for seaside or poolside, the looped fabric debuts in a range of cover-ups including a sleeveless,
button-front “towelette” framed by softly scalloped straps. Breezy cotton voile is the canvas for sculpted pleats,
refined ruffles, and an exclusive print of colorful seashells created by watercolor artist Caitlin McGauley.
The whimsical pattern also appears on a larger scale in favorite resortwear styles of delicately perforated cotton.
The natural beauty of seashells extends to the collection’s swimwear, in which the confectionary pastels
of Harbour Island meet its deeper hues of wet sand and bay blue, often in one reversible piece.
Signature hand-cut scalloped edges mix with grommeted lacing as in the season’s new strapless maillot.
Framed by a sweetheart neckline and a tie-front, lace-up bodice, the vivacious silhouette is shaped by
internal boning and gains a subtle basketweave texture from a quick-drying Italian blend
selected for its superior stretch and recovery.
The playful colors and lively print of the season also animate Bumby children’s swimwear,
from mix-and-match tops and bottoms to double-sided maillots and rashguards,
many of which coordinate with women’s styles for “Bumby and me” adventures.
