Like her name suggests, L*SPACE Lead Apparel Designer Sunny Robinson is the quintessential Cali girl. We recently caught up with her in her Laguna Beach bungalow to dive into what inspires her, how she’s been adjusting to the work-from-home grind, and how she styles our Resort/Holiday collection.
Hi Sunny! Tell us, what was your source of inspiration for this collection?
Before we designed our 2020 Holiday/Resort collection, we travelled to Tokyo, London, and Ibiza for inspiration. This collection combines some of our favorite things about each place. The fun, bright colors and prints reminiscent of Tokyo. That charming and cozy feeling that is so undeniably London. And the effortlessly cool beachy vibes that encompass Ibiza’s Mediterranean lifestyle.
What’s your favorite piece in the collection?
That would have to be the Sun Seeker Sweater and Shorts. We set out to design an oh-so-cozy set, versatile enough to take you from your comfy couch out to brunch with the girls. The striped print is warm and beachy, reminding us of sunny days spent soaking up rays. We love that the pullover can be worn on its own back to denim for a chic “throw it on and go” look.
Who is your style muse?
It’s hard to pick just one. Throw in a little Farrah Fawcett, a dash of Brigitte Bardot and a sprinkle of 90’s Kate Moss.
3 things you love about being a designer:
- Answering the question “what’s next?” It is a lot of fun to collaborate as a team sharing what we all feel good about for future seasons, and developing these ideas from initial concept to the final collections you see up on our site!
- I love using my creativity in a way that feels really purposeful. Making clothes brings life to the ideas I have in my head, and I love working through the details to find the perfect fit, fabric and colors for each piece that make them feel so special.
- It makes me really happy to see people loving the pieces I design. When you look good you feel good, and knowing that I’m helping to brighten someone’s day when they put on something they really love inspires me to keep making.
How has your idea of home changed this year? How has it remained the same?
Home for me has always meant a feeling of safety, a place to reflect and to grow. I grew up in a beach town, so being close to the ocean has always been really grounding for me. This year, I moved from LA back to my hometown of Laguna Beach to reconnect with nature and be closer to family. It’s the best decision I could have ever made. Getting back to my roots and swimming in the ocean (a lot) have been really life changing!
What is one piece of advice that has stuck with you?
You never know where life is going to take you. Be open, be present and above all else – be kind.
BYRON TUNIC – MAGIC HOUR GAUZE
This flowy tunic dress is a really beautiful day-to-night look. I love the subtle sparkle of the light and airy fabric. Wear this style dancing around barefoot in your house or dress it up with a pair of ankle boots and your favorite clutch for a night out on the town.
This jumper embodies comfy chic, and what could be more 2020? My favorite way to wear this shimmery, wired v-neck jumper is paired with a pair of ankle boots with a couple of necklaces layered on for a quick and easy holiday look.
JETSETTER SWEATER DRESS
This mid length turtleneck sweater dress is a true “one and done” look. Wear it for while you work from home for a stylish and cozy vibe. Or, pull on your favorite over-the-knee boots, and it’s an easy and complete outfit.
SUN SEEKER SWEATER AND SHORT
I love to wear these soft knit pieces together when I’m feeling cozy, but they are also great when styled on their own. The Sun Seeker pullover sweater pairs back really nicely to denim. I throw on a pair of sandals or mules and I’m on my way!
This velvety mini dress is a tried and true holiday favorite. We love the open back detail, puff sleeves, and delicate silver stripe in the ribbed fabric. Pair back with a leather jacket, sheer black tights, and some little black boots when the weather cools down for the ultimate flirty party look.
KAT POWER JACKET
Two words – outfit completer. I can wear this blush leopard print jacket over so many pieces in my closet! My go-to looks are layering over my favorite activewear set, or with a light sweater and high-waisted denim for a chic daytime look.
